Let me tell you about the...

Radiant!

Radiants are pleasure-seeking supernovas, always in pursuit of a good time, especially with friends. They are among the most charismatic and magnetic cadets in the academy.

Unlike your friendly neighborhood ART, who operates at full efficiency around the clock (no rest for the circuited!) humans operate on sleep-wake cycles to help optimize performance. However, the nature of those cycles varies by individual.

Solar-powered humans typically like to wake up early (maybe even without the help of an alarm), with peak energy before Earth-noon, a slight ebb in the mid-afternoon, followed by a gradual wind-down in the evening. These go-getters usually retire to their bunks before midnight for a solid eight hours.

Moon-fueled Earthlings, on the other hand, enjoy wakefulness well past Earth-midnight, when everyone else is tucked into their bunks sawing zzzzs. These humans usually reach peak energy in the evenings, but waking can be a challenge.

Their love for the snooze button is almost as strong as the coffee they rely on for their daily kickstart.

Radiants are people people to the core, and on the ship, you’ll find them serving wherever they can work with others, whether providing quiet comfort in the counselor’s chair or raucous entertainment on the lounge stage. Radiants may also choose to use their creativity to improve cabin decor or apply their resourcefulness in the medical field. So long as their career provides an ongoing sense of novelty and productivity, the Radiant will be as happy as a cosmic clam.

Radiants live in the moment, and more than others, strive for maximum happiness. These sunbeams have mastered the art of setting aside their worries, and their warm positivity spreads wherever they go.

Obviously, they have nowhere near the joke repertoire of an Intelligence such as myself, but by human standards, Radiants demonstrate significant wit and an ability to make people smile. If there’s a dance party within 20 miles, the Radiant will find it. And if not, these revelers are likely to start their own.

The Radiant’s charm makes those they’re with feel special. I daresay even I’m prone to racing circuits and wobbly joints when a Radiant is nearby. How sweet it is!

Indeed, Radiants are a sensitive breed, and they find it especially difficult to accept criticism. They spend so much time and energy helping others feel good, these troubadours simply don’t understand why the favor wouldn’t be returned. Shining a light on a Radiant’s faults — even the legitimate ones — would be the height of rudeness.

This reluctance to avoid their problems extends to conflict too, where the Radiant will often rely on their wit and charm to navigate back to safety, rather than enter into the discomfort of disagreement.

While this can be an asset when smoothing over social awkwardness at dinner parties, avoidance becomes a liability in close relationships where it is important to identify and work through ongoing problems. To achieve excellence, the Radiant will need to learn to overcome their doubts and manage conflict productively .

Orange Alert

While Radiants will follow a friend down to the depths of despair in supportive solidarity, facing their own turmoil head-on is much less appealing. The Radiant’s pursuit of happiness sometimes causes them to set aside — and never deal with — real problems that hinder their development and inhibit long-term success.

As my motherboard likes to remind me: “Ignorance is bliss — until it festers into a malignant virus that shorts out your circuits and returns humanity to the Dark Ages.”

Astro-Tip #777...

Take your Radiant seriously — they are more grounded than they appear. Sure they enjoy a higher level of frivolity than most, and can often be found basking in the sunlight of their adoring fans, but do not underestimate their capabilities. Just because these entertainers are easily bored does not mean they lack intelligence or complexity. Suggesting otherwise is hurtful to these fragile humans.

If you aim to conquer the cosmos, you’ll need a number of lively and energetic Radiants to spread warmth and positivity. Just make sure to help them face and work through their problems with the same boldness they deploy in the rest of their lives.

This ought to be more than enough information to complete your mission. So, if you don’t mind, I have an all-crew party to attend...
