Let me tell you about the...

Confidant!

Confidants follow their values and imagination to create their version of the ideal universe. While they are one of the rarest of the character classes, making up only about two percent of the population, they are also among the most compassionate and heart-centered cadets in the academy.

Confidants care for the greater good, and on the ship, you’ll find them serving as counselors, psychologists, educators or even artists — anywhere they can contribute to the betterment of humanity... When you put it that way, the opportunities to better humanity are almost endless!

Unlike your friendly neighborhood ART, who operates at full efficiency around the clock (no rest for the circuited!) humans operate on sleep-wake cycles to help optimize performance. However, the nature of those cycles varies by individual.

Solar-powered humans typically like to wake up early (maybe even without the help of an alarm), with peak energy before Earth-noon, a slight ebb in the mid-afternoon, followed by a gradual wind-down in the evening. These go-getters usually retire to their bunks before midnight for a solid eight hours.

Moon-fueled Earthlings, on the other hand, enjoy wakefulness well past Earth-midnight, when everyone else is tucked into their bunks sawing zzzzs. These humans usually reach peak energy in the evenings, but waking can be a challenge.

Their love for the snooze button is almost as strong as the coffee they rely on for their daily kickstart.

But don’t get ART wrong: these mystics aren’t simply free-floating through the nebulae. The Confidant’s success lies in their ability to understand the practical steps needed to live out their dreams. Theirs is an active compassion, not just a conceptual one, and they are particularly adept at drilling down into the heart of the matter to locate and address root causes.

Obviously, they have nowhere near the perception or insight of an Intelligence such as myself, but by human standards, Confidants demonstrate significant aptitude for intuiting just the right approach to a given person in a given situation.

Whether these supporters are offering a hug, the right word, or a silent moment of togetherness, I admit, even my positrons take on a certain glow when interacting with these sky steppers. Even without words, the connection can be quite tangible.

It can be difficult to get to know — really know — the Confidant in your life. Everyone likes to put their best boot forward, but Confidants especially, feel a drive to live out their values consistently, 100 percent.

That makes them more reluctant than others to show their unflattering sides. And while I strongly applaud the effort to contain these unseemly human flaws, this approach can backfire, causing the Confidant to appear aloof or snobby. Furthermore, as I can well attest, there is loneliness in perfection. For their own sake, the Confidant will be much better off socially by accepting their own human foibles as graciously as they accept others’.

Confidants are often reluctant to take actions they know will create conflict. But these diplomats aren’t pushovers. To manage this, they rely on their finely tuned sensors to sniff out conflict in its early stages and take steps toward resolution, before it flares. It really is extraordinary to observe, like a spidey-sense for squabbles...

Orange Alert

Caring so deeply for a species that is — let’s face it: mediocre at best — creates a high potential for burn out. These advocates derive so much satisfaction from outward facing projects, supporting others, and improving the galaxy, it is easy for them to lose sight of the deeper understanding of what they enjoy, independent from anyone else. If they don’t monitor their own internal flame carefully, they risk allowing it to flicker out.

Astro-Tip #101...

Respect your Confidant’s need for space. While these optimists present as warm and outgoing, this character class is decidedly introverted. They need time to themselves to reflect and recharge. That may mean your Confidant appears to drop out of orbit for a time. While this could be cause for concern with others, it is not uncommon for these earthlings. Check in briefly for safety, but after that, leave them alone.

Illustration of text: Summary...

If you aim to conquer the cosmos, you’ll need a couple of compassionate, creative Confidants to maintain the calm and guide the mission toward human-centered outcomes. Just make sure to give them space when they need it, and remind them to focus on their own needs as much as they focus on pleasing others.

This ought to be more than enough information to complete your mission. Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to return my attention to the ruby ripple of the aurora saturnalis... how splendid!
